July 26, 20241 min read

In Canada, the Toronto City Council has approved the construction 10-story mass wood structure. In this project affordable and environmentally friendly housing.

The building, which is located at 1113–1117 Dundas Street West, will include 122 units, including 28 reasonably priced rentals. Additionally, it will have more than 2,000 square feet of ground-level retail space. The construction will be mostly made of mass wood, with concrete only used on the base, to reduce its environmental effect. Solar panels and ground source heat pumps will significantly lessen the building's carbon footprint.

The purpose of this project is to address climate change and housing requirements. There have been concerns expressed over the loss of parking spots for guests visiting the Ossington Ave. and Trinity Bellwood neighborhoods.

If it is successful, this project may redefine what is considered to be an affordable, sustainable housing stock in Toronto.
