Supported by Sobeys and Crombie REIT, a huge mixed-use development is planned for the east Ottawa district of Orléans. The project will provide 1,076 additional residential apartments and 735 square meters of retail space. It consists of seven buildings with heights ranging from 7 to 18 floors.
The pharmaceutical building and parking lot that it was next to will be replaced by the development, which is placed at 1887 St. Joseph Boulevard. If authorized, it will be a major improvement to the neighborhood, bringing much-needed shops and apartments close to the planned Jeanne d'Arc Light Rail Transit Station.
A scope of housing alternatives, including studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, are hoped-for to be included in the project. There will also be plenty of parking and space to store bicycles.
Local councilor Laura Dudas is in favor of the planned construction because she thinks it would help solve Ottawa's housing affordability issue. Although the project is still in its early phases, Dudas reports that the response from the neighborhood has been favorable.
